Brian O'Brien, founder of O'Brien Plumbing, at work in a Dublin home

A Business Built on Turning Up and Being Honest

When Brian O'Brien started this business in 2009, the idea was fairly simple: show up when you say you will, do the job properly, and be straight about the price. Sounds obvious — but it turns out a lot of tradespeople don't manage all three at once.

Brian had served his apprenticeship in Dublin in the early 2000s, spent a few years working for larger contractors across Leinster, and decided it was time to do things his own way. He started out on his own with a second-hand van and a phone that he still answers himself most of the time.

The business has grown steadily since — not through advertising, mostly through word of mouth. Homeowners recommended us to their neighbours, landlords put us on speed dial, and the jobs got bigger and more varied. These days, we're a small team, all trade-qualified, all based in north Dublin.

Fully Qualified — and That Actually Means Something

We're RGII registered gas installers — that's the Commission for Regulation of Utilities register for gas work in Ireland. It's not optional if you're working on gas appliances; it's a legal requirement. We're also fully insured with public liability cover, and we keep our qualifications and renewals up to date.

We mention this not to show off, but because it's worth asking any plumber you hire. Some don't bother.

The Way We Work

We've been on enough jobs to know what actually annoys people about tradespeople. So we tried to fix that.

We Show Up On Time

If we say 10am, we mean 10am. If something changes on our end — which occasionally happens — we'll ring ahead, not leave you waiting and wondering.

We Quote Before We Start

No surprises on the invoice. You'll know what the job costs before we touch anything. If we discover something unexpected mid-job, we'll stop and tell you before carrying on.

We Leave Your Home as We Find It

We've all had tradespeople leave a mess behind. We bring sheets to protect floors, tidy up all our materials, and take any waste away with us. It's just part of the job.

The People Behind the Van

Small team, all fully qualified. You'll see the same faces on repeat visits — we don't sub-contract.

Qualifications & Memberships

These aren't just logos on a website — they represent legal requirements and genuine standards of practice.

RGII Registered

Gas Installer registration with the Commission for Regulation of Utilities. Required by law for gas boiler work in Ireland.

Public Liability Insurance

Fully insured for all plumbing work. We carry proof of insurance to every job — ask to see it if you'd like.

CIF Member

Member of the Construction Industry Federation — the main representative body for construction and trade contractors in Ireland.

City & Guilds Qualified

All team members hold City & Guilds plumbing qualifications from formal apprenticeship training.

A word on RGII: Any plumber working on gas appliances in Ireland — boilers, gas hobs, gas fires — must be on the RGII register. It's a legal requirement under the Gas Regulation Acts. If a plumber is working on your gas appliances and isn't registered, they're not covered by insurance and any work they do is not legally compliant. Always ask for their RGII number before work starts.
